Old World vs New World

Here we put forward concepts of healing.
On the one hand the treatment of body, mind, heart, and energy is an idea unfortunately foreign to most Western doctors. Western physicians are taught to look only at the physical body and are often ignorant of the mental and energetic impacts of disease. This is not necessarily the fault of the unknowing doctor as they neither receive nor are even give the option to formal training in this area. However, they always seem to have plenty of subscription pads at arms length in their office and lots of ink in their pen.
Modern pharmaceutical giants have put a strangle hold on Western doctors ability to really heal their patients, turning them into pseudo drug dealers wielding them power to only prescribe their drugs. Is a shame as there really are great doctors who simply are not allowed by law to incorporate tried and true traditional healing methods, despite having genuine desire to do so. As a result, people are understandably seeking their own path to well being, escaping the savage western cycle of treating disease which ultimately is rarely true healing.
This purely physical approach does have some merit for fixing ailments such as broken limbs or bodily trauma, but is notably less effective in the treatment of acute or chronic ailments such as diabetes, viral infections, fungal ailments, anxiety, and immune disorders. Natural medicine follow a balanced approached to optimizing system functionality. More acute infections are countered with equally aggressive powerful antimicrobial anti infectious extracts which exhibit staggering anti infectious power far exceeding any antibiotic or chemical drug made by man.
By treating the body, mind, heart, and energy together through a combination of therapies which strengthen the body’s own immune defenses, destroy any existing infection, instill a sense of mental and physical harmony, and cure these types of diseases from the root.
In the western world, there is often skepticism as to how these essences are intertwined. To the Thais there is lack of understanding as to how the can be separated!
For example, miraculous cures we have witnessed were often attributed to the spirit, or Buddha, or to a particularly powerful monk, and we have witnessed first hand as to their incredible healing nature.
Most western doctors would of course dismiss this as not scientifically sound (what no drugs?). However, as validated by our medical staff, this is indeed true healing with patients achieving total clearance of illnesses without recurrence. We view these “miracles” in healing in perfect reason with the intimate relationship of the body, mind, heart, and energy.
As Western Medicine can not make this into pill form available for prescription, they claim the healing affect a placebo. Tragic really, they can’t control you so it is invalidated at the expense of peoples well being. Big pharma is very, very big business, the #2 money making industry on the planet.
The placebo effect, lets examine this. Thinking you are getting better and you actually do. Western medicine has long recognized this and instead of teaching us about this, it is conveniently dismissed as it can not be patented, truth. Westerners are constantly baffled by the recurring fact that in clinical trial after clinical trial that sugar pills do affect a cure in patients with serious life threatening illnesses. Eastern medical practitioners and doctors are not be surprised by such results and expect such to be so as they simply represent the situation where the mind/heart was able to cure the physical body. This is normal, natural, and healthy.
Again, it comes back to education, or lack of in the case of western docs. The ultimate goal of big pharma is profit at the expense of the unknowing patient. If a miracle cure is discovered which can not be patented, a blind eye is turned, we have seen this. Instead, a ridiculously expensive prescription to some new modern pharmaceutical with unknown long term side effects is given the spotlight. How many of these modern drugs are tested as to liver or kidney damage even 5 years after the patient was on them? Almost none. This is problematic.
As such, these theories of well being and healing have not been explained to the bright eyed excited med school student, nor in any continuing education programs deemed necessary by the AMA (American Medical Association). However, for most traditional Thai and Chinese doctors, the question of how exactly the mind, heart, and energy affect the body in a very positive or negative way is secondary to the practical reality that they do!
Scientifically, the way the mind heals may never be “proven” in the western sense as it represents the true essence of life. Can you measure love? Of course not, but we feel it and know it exists. This is the same theory of Chi.
The absolute reality is that self help therapy and medicinal herbs work wonderfully and should be employed as the first go to treatment. Even western medicine begrudgingly admits to the power of the mind to heal. More and more (hundreds if not thousands) pharmaceutical studies have been conducted which identified the overwhelming supremacy of medicinal herbs to eradicate disease verse their drug counterpart. These are conducted in an effort to extract the precise naturally occurring chemical compound, synthesize it in the lab, put in a plastic bottle and identify it as a new miracle treatment. In reality, they are just attempting to exploit Mother Nature.
Herbal therapies have demonstrated to be highly effective over the centuries practiced by licensed medical doctors in Asian countries which is why big pharma tries to mimic these remedies. They are just packaged and marketed differently in the west.
At the very least, we can say the energy and mind therapies stimulate the natural healing process of the body, while the antimicrobial nature of the extracts eradicate disease, and therefore, they can assist in the treatment, and often times cure, any disease.
We can say from direct physical evidence, quite often, herbal and holistic healing techniques have a profound healing effect where allopathic western pharmaceutical drugs have repeatedly failed.
Traditional Medicine Today and the Future
Fortunately, people do get it. People are taking the power of their well being back into their own hands. Sometimes it is more of a necessity than desire as allopathic medicine is not of benefit. Holistic Asian treatments for mind, body, and energy are slowly gaining access to the western world.
Dr. Jeffrey Yuen, whom we studied under, cures cancer at the #1 cancer institute in the US, the Sloan Kittery Hospital in New York, via natural diet and herbs catered to the individual.
While Western medicine still emphases body treatments such as prescription drugs, surgery, etc, “alternative” therapies have gained much respect and even recognized and accepted by insurance plans as acceptable treatment. Funny, but “alternative” treatment should actually be the big pharma drugs and used as a last option.
As East and West become more interwoven, it is natural that the best of the ancient and modern will merge together in a new synthesis, with herbal remedies becoming more of the first option treatments. It is the challenge of the modern era to create this up and coming new model of medicine, and this model will begin with a deep understanding of the human body as not merely a physical entity, but whole being of body, mind, heart and energy all acting together.
In several Asian countries, and even a few European nations integration of modern and traditional healing has begun. For example, in modern Thailand, which has state of the art hospitals, traditional medicine is prescribed side by side with allopathic medicine. In rural areas, government operated clinics dispense tried and true traditional medicines (remedies) alongside allopathic drugs with the support and blessing of the Thai government, the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF.
For some reason, western world has been drilled into its psyche that herbal medicine is not as effective as over the counter prescription drugs. Nothing could be farther from the truth. This seems to have remarkably coincided with the advent of penicillin and the pharmaceutical industry.
In fact, study after study at the US National Library of Medicine provide overwhelming evidence that natural extracts are indeed far, far superior in the treatment of acute illnesses, especially viral diseases which antibiotics have no effect.
As a result, natural substances form the basis of a significant amount of today’s pharmaceutical drugs including cancer medication, heart medication, aspirin, pain killers and antibiotics. As these drugs contain isolated components of the whole herb, use of the entire plant will derive a significantly greater impact. Use of the extract or essential oils provides even further medicinal power the drug companies can only dream about. Billions of years of evolutionary development can not possibly be reproduced in a laboratory.
